Old World Portrait

My most recent assignment is creating an 'Old World' portrait.  We have to take a picture that resembles one that was taken in 1920 or older.  The inspiration I'm using is from Hawaii.  Like I've mentioned previously Megan has graciously volunteered to be my guinea pig.  This past Tuesday we did some test shots in the studio to play with the lighting.  I adjusted the tone slightly by warming the images -- other than that the pictures were taken with instant film and provided a lot of information.  Megan has beautiful lines in her neck and, of course, a gorgeous face, but the lighting is just too modern.  One of my instructors pointed out that my inspiration picture was taken without lights of any sort, hence, the soft shadows.  He also demonstrated how the closer to the light source the softer the shadows become on the face.  I'm now excited to try my hand at producing pictures indoors with available light.  I can't wait.
A big thank you to Matt Holton who's art inspired my Hawaiian look and helped research Hawaiian culture.
